Welcome to the Virtual Sessions

The Virtual Sessions provide musicians of all ages and stages with inspirational and consistent online tuition over a short, focused period. The Sessions break down musical, societal and cultural barriers as people come together from across the world to prepare towards a final activity that showcases the learning and celebrates our global musical community.

The Baroque Virtual Sessions return from 2 – 16 October with live online sessions from Saturday 7 to Tuesday 10 October, and two special masterclasses with Rachel Podger on Monday 16 October.

Led by a team of internationally acclaimed specialists, this year’s Guest Artists include: Adrian Bending (percussion), Steven Devine (keyboard), Thomas Dunford and Elizabeth Kenny (lute), Margaret Faultless, Alina Ibragimova, Edson Scheid and Zafira Valova (violin), Clifton Harrison (viola) and David Watkin (cello).

The Sessions are open to participants of all ages and stages and will take place in two parts:

Baroque Bites: Join in on social media

Baroque Bites will feature short participation and information videos from a range of baroque experts that will be released across our social media platforms. The videos will also be hosted on this YouTube playlist here.

Meet the Experts: Between 7-10 October 2023

Presented by Head of Creative Learning, Lucy Drever, our Baroque Guest Artists will lead a series of invigorating discussions and in depth exploration of the world of baroque music. Topics will include everything from ‘What is Baroque Music?’ to exploring female composers of the baroque era to a participatory session with percussionist Adrian Bending.

Participants may join as many sessions as they wish, and all sessions will be recorded and will be available to watch back for six months.

Participation Fee: £15 with full bursaries available. Please tick the box on the registration form to apply the bursary.

Register by 5 October to receive access to ‘Meet the Experts’. After 5 October, you can continue to register to receive the watch back videos.

Early Career Baroque Violinists: Benedetti Baroque Orchestra Competition - APPLICATIONS CLOSED

As part of the Baroque Virtual Sessions, Nicola Benedetti, The Benedetti Foundation and global music agency Askonas Holt are offering the opportunity for an early career baroque violinist to win a place with the Benedetti Baroque Orchestra as a member of the orchestra on its inaugural tour of Asia in 2024. The winner will be announced in mid-October.
