Melanie Gruwez Violin

Melanie Gruwez is a Belgian violinist, passionate about different music genres and collaborations with other art forms. She is an award-winning chamber musician, obtaining the St James Prize 2021 with Picea Quartet. Her international orchestral experience includes playing at Barbican, Bozar and Oriental Art Centre Shanghai. 

As a baroque violinist, she played alongside the Academy of Ancient Music and Barokksolistene. She joined the vibrant Theresia Orchestra in 2022, with whom she tours around Europe. Melanie is the Early Career Artist 2023 with the Instruments of Time & Truth. 

Additionally, Melanie performed with Ambrose Akinmusire and Whitney, collaborated with dance and theatre such as “VENN” by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and created her own show with film “Melancholia”. She is passionate about improvisation, having learned with David Dolan, Robert Levin and Yves Senden.

As well as her extensive performance experience, Melanie is a dedicated violin teacher at the Southwark Music Centre. As a Benedetti Foundation instrumental ambassador, she constantly develops her teaching skills and expands her experience through workshops and research.

Melanie obtained her Artist Masters from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2022, studying with Ofer Falk and Oliver Webber. Furthermore, she graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp studying with Guido De Neve and studied at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles with Shirly Laub and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She performed in masterclasses with Chiara Banchini, Philippe Graffin, Stephan Picard, Pavel Vernikov, Ezster Haffner, Stephanie Gonley, Endellion Quartet and Pražák Quartet.Melanie Gruwez is a Belgian violinist, passionate about different music genres and collaborations with other art forms.
