Lucy Irving Clarinet

Lucy Irving is a third-year music student at Durham University and has been playing the clarinet since the age of 10, achieving her ATCL Diploma by the age of 17. Before coming to Durham, she was principal clarinettist of Cumbria Youth Orchestra and performed with the City of Carlisle Orchestra. In 2020, she started her degree with a scholarship for musical excellence and has been an active musician in the Music Durham scene ever since. Currently, she is an exec member and clarinettist in Durham University Palatinate Orchestra (DUPO) where she has performed in venues such as Durham Cathedral, the Gala Theatre, and on tour in Berlin and Paris.

Lucy recently completed an orchestral mentorship scheme at the Royal Opera House, where she was paired with the principal bass clarinettist of the orchestra to receive tuition and have access to private rehearsals and performances. Additionally, she has participated in the St Endellion Music Festival, which brings together professionals and young musicians, as well as performing with Orchestra North East. This summer she will take part in National Youth Music Theatre's production of Sondheim's 'Merrily We Roll Along' at Southwark Playhouse in London.

Keen to promote the joys of music making, Lucy enjoys her role as Creative Learning Ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation, as well as being a Young Programmer at Sage Gateshead. Lucy will undertake a Music Masters in Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in September, which she looks forward to.
