Laura Kim Violin

Born in Tokyo, raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now studying her Bachelors at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Laura Kim is currently in her 3rd year Bachelor’s degree studying under Joshua Fisher. Taking part of various projects throughout the year, her highlights include being invited to perform for Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal Anne, leading the Royal Academy Opera orchestra as concertmaster, collaborating with Johann Stuckenbruck, along with regularly performing with the Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Edward Gardner, Seymor Bychkov, and John Wilson. She has also performed in masterclasses featuring Robin Wilson, Jennifer Pike, and received private instruction from Zoya Leybin, Levon Chilingirian, and Kevork Mardirossian.

Laura has also attended the Aspen Music Festival & School, and in the summer of 2022 was given the New Horizons Fellowship award, studying with Naoko Tanaka of the Juilliard school. Previously, Laura was also a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and performed with them in Berlin Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie, the Musikverein, and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw during their 2019 European Tour. Laura has also attended the Meadowmount School of Music, where she studied with Ivan Zenaty.

Laura hopes to use music as a means to bring together the communities she’s a part of. During the 2022-2023 school year, Laura was a member of the Open Academy Leadership Skills program at the Royal Academy of Music, where she performed for local primary schools, care homes, and hospitals. She also enjoys using music from pop culture mediums such as video games, tv series, and films, to perform for audiences not familiar with classical music. She also enjoys analyzing music within popular media in order to map out the storylines each composer was trying to.

In the summer of 2023, Laura will attend the Virtuoso & Belcanto Music Festival in Lucca, Italy, studying under Krzysztof Wegrzyn.
