Laura Alexander Violin

Laura Alexander is a dynamic musician from the UK who recently graduated from studies in Historical Violin at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Kati Debretzeni and Ryo Terakado. Before this, she studied Music at Girton College, The University of Cambridge. She champions an embodied approach to Historically Informed Performance by learning baroque dance, historical acting and improvisation in order to fulfil her strong musical intentions. She is equally at home in director roles, for example as concertmaster of the Neues Musikalisches Forum in Dresden as well as being an innovative and reliable member of chamber ensembles. She is a committed orchestral player having played ‘Side by Side’ with the Orchestra of the 18th Century and attended several residencies of the Jeune Orchestre de l’Abbaye, Saintes, France. Her study of the human body through the Alexander Technique further facilitates her musical expression and those of colleagues and students. Laura enjoys teaching having completed a Minor in Education and taken a year-long programme studying teaching using the Kodaly Concept during her studies in The Hague. In addition, she has a certificate from Colourstrings UK to teach music according to the Kodaly Concept to Kindergarten children. She is delighted to be an Instrumental Ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation this year and hopes to absorb as much as contribute to the amazing things the Foundation does.
