INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA

Intermediate Orchestra
Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June 2026

The Intermediate Orchestra is for players working around Grade 4-6 level. You will join us on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June. Participants are required to attend both days.

Watch this short video from Tutor, Rachel Cooper, to find out more about what we do in the Intermediate Orchestra, and whether this is the right group for you.

During the Aberdeen Sessions, the Intermediate Orchestra will work on two pieces; one which is just for your orchestra, and one mass piece, bringing together the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Orchestras. The Intermediate piece is The Ayoub Sisters’ arrangement of Were You There  and the mass piece is Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite No.1

Over the weekend, we explore expression, storytelling, sound production, freedom in playing, the context of the music and improvisation, as well as delving into specific technical challenges.

A creative task is also shared in advance to encourage participants to immerse themselves in the story of the music during the preparation period. We then ask participants to bring this with them to the weekend.

Both days will end with a short sharing session to which families are invited to join (limited capacity).

Video Link: Once you have completed your registration, you will be required to submit a short video of you playing a piece that you enjoy performing, this to help us support young musicians during the weekend and ensure they are at the correct level to get the most out of the Sessions. There will be a link in your confirmation email to submit your video link with instructions on how to do this.
