Gretna Heynike Violin

Gretna Heynike is a South African violinist based in Stellenbosch, a small university town outside of Cape Town. She obtained her BMus (2020) and BMus Honours degrees (2021) at Stellenbosch University and is currently completing her MMus degree in violin performance. During her studies, Gretna has formed part of several ensembles including the Stellenbosch University Symphony Orchestra and the Stellenbosch University Camerata. Currently she is an ad hoc player for the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra.

Gretna enjoys chamber music and had the honour of attending the Irish Chamber Orchestra Academy Project at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in 2022. In addition to performing, she has a passion for music education and enjoys teaching young and adult students. She maintains an active studio for young violinists and has been teaching violin and ensemble classes at a Primary School in Stellenbosch since 2021.
