Alexandra Merbecks Violin

Scottish violinist, Alexandra Merbecks, began her musical studies under Lucy Cowan. After winning numerous prizes in local competitions, performing her first solo recital and receiving specialist chamber music coaching through the Edrom Casals Centre, she decided to pursue a career in classical music.

Alexandra continued her education in Edinburgh, studying a BMus Hons, followed by an MA in violin performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying under Ruth Crouch, Bernard Docherty and Gina McCormack.

Performance highlights include Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.3 with the Edinburgh Napier Chamber Orchestra and Bruch Violin Concerto No.1 with the Edrom Casals Ensemble, leader of the Edinburgh Napier Chamber Orchestra and regular recitals in St. Giles Cathedral and at the Scottish Arts Club.

As a chamber musician and member of the Forth Trio, she has given performances in the Edinburgh International Festival, the Scottish Arts Club and as their international debut, were requested to give performances in The Netherlands which were broadcast live on local TV. In 2018, she was awarded finalist in the Edinburgh String Quartet Competition.

Alongside performing, Alexandra is a dedicated teacher. Passing on her passion for music, students have gone on to study music at university and received distinctions in violin, piano and theory examinations. Advocating for healthy performance practice, she has a certificate in Essentials of Performing Arts Medicine from the Performing Arts Medicine Association. As an instrumental ambassador at the Benedetti Foundation, she hopes to further her training and experience in string pedagogy.
