Michael provides strategic leadership for the Benedetti Foundation, as well as overseeing its day to day operational management. Michael is the primary point of contact for all of the Foundation’s fundraising activity and financial mangement. He works closely with Nicola and the Board of Trustees to ensure good governance of the organisation’s work and the greatest possible impact and legacy for the Benedetti Foundation.
Michael was previously Director of the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales leading the business through a change management process and refocussing the orchestra on its dual role of serving the audiences in Wales alongside the broadcast audiences that it reaches on the BBC’s various broadcast platforms. Michael appointed the first-ever female conductor to a titled position with any BBC orchestra and championed diverse and young talent drawing in new audiences for the orchestra’s work.
He previously was Chief Executive of the Academy of Ancient Music. Establishing AAM Records, the Academy’s own record label, he also secured a role for the AAM as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant celebrations, which saw the orchestra, perform live to millions across the globe. Michael was also General Manager at the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment before heading to the AAM, and has previously worked at Arts Council England and Classic FM.
