  • Repertoire: We will be studying George Walker's Lyric for Strings and the 3rd movement of Schubert’s iconic ‘Trout’ Quintet.

  • Tutors: Elena Urioste (violin), Savitri Grier (violin), Rosalind Ventris (viola), Laura van der Heijden (cello), Jospeh Conyers (double bass) and Tom Poster (piano)

  • Participants: School age string players and pianists, working at a minimum of Grade 6 / Advanced level are invited to sign up to be a part of this special weekend of music making. We welcome any young musicians who feel able to approach the music. Please click here to see a sample of the quintet score. This will give you an idea of the required playing level to feel comfortable. For the Walker, violinists will self select Violin 1 or 2.

  • Preparation: In advance, you will receive the music and a tutorial video from your section tutor to help you get to grips with the part before the weekend. It is highly recommended that you have prepared and feel comfortable with your parts. The sectional rehearsals will focus on the chamber aspects of the parts, techniques of playing and will not be covering learning the notes. This will be explored in the preparation videos.

  • Schedule: All participants will receive 3 hours tuition per day (please see the schedule below for timings) - two hours all together at the start and end of the day and one hour in sectional groups. As part of the sessions, we will discuss what it means to play chamber music, the context and history of the repertoire we are studying, rehearsal relationships and interpretation, as well as sessions with your instrumental tutor.

All sessions will be delivered via Zoom, and should be attended live

N.B. For the Chamber Music Sessions, recording links will ONLY be made available for participants in different time zones and therefore unable to attend live. You will be given the option to select this on the sign up form.
