Beginner String Orchestra Day

Recommended ages: 7 - 11

Instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass

The Beginners Workshop is for string players,  approximately Grade1-3 (please note, exams do not have to have been taken, but ideally you should have had at least 6 months of lessons before applying to join the workshop). Players on the beginners workshop will have the opportunity to focus on the basics and the joys of playing. You will learn to make music with the body and mind, work on physical freedom when playing, learn to discover the story your music tells and how we can express it collectively - as well as, of course, considering sound. Sound is vibration and sound is emotion – sound is important!

Saturday 9am-5.30pm

Folk Music from the UK

Bartok – Romanian Folk Dances No. 4, 5 and 6

Tutors are drawn from across the UK’s conservatoires, orchestras and educational institutions.

The Beginners Orchestra will work with conductor Lucy Maguire

Successful applicants to this weekend course will be required to prepare thoroughly in advance. Nicky and the team will guide you through some of this preparation process via the ‘With Nicky’ video series on YouTube. Before applying, please ensure you have the support of your instrumental teacher who will assist you with the preparation stages of the workshop. If this is not possible for you, don’t worry. We will be here to help!

All participants will be expected to be able to play their parts before the start of the workshop.  All participants will be expected to be able to play their parts before the start of the course, and we strongly recommend learning your parts from memory. This will allow us to better focus out time together on larger objectives like story-telling, sound production and freedom in playing.

The Benedetti Sessions will be open to all young musicians and teachers, whatever their background or circumstances, and it is possible to have all of your fees paid for you. We offer financial assistance through bursaries so no one should be prevented from attending a workshop weekend due to financial hardship. Each case is assessed individually and all applications are treated in the strictest confidence. Please indicate on the application form if you will require financial assistance.

The cost for the Benedetti Sessions 2020 is:
